BUS SHELTERS COMMITTEE

Minutes of a meeting of the Bus Shelters Committee held on Tuesday, 16 October 2001 and commencing at 7.30pm in The Institute.

Councillor Lewis, Chair, presided over Councillors Dilks, Warrick and the clerk. There were no members of the public present.

007 APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE were received from Councillor Chambers.

008 MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING

It was confirmed that the minutes of the meeting held on 11 September 2001 were adopted at the full Council meeting held on 26 September 2001.

009 MATTERS ARISING NOT DEALT WITH ELSEWHERE ON THE AGENDA

Delaine Buses (minute 04.1) had advised that the Burchnall Close stop near Lady Margaret’s Avenue was particularly well used and did not have a bus stop marker. They also felt that enclosed shelters were not appropriate for a variety of reasons and would prefer to see open shelters with side panel protection from the elements. The clerk had widened the specification for quotations in view of this. It was agreed to accept this advice when considering the size and style of shelter for each location.

010 CORRESPONDENCE

None received.

011 QUOTATIONS FOR SHELTERS FOR PREVIOUSLY IDENTIFIED LOCATIONS

Quotations were sought to the specification contained in the last report, plus standard cantilever shelters with full width and half width side panels – minute 009, from five leading suppliers: Abacus, Autocross, Bus Shelters Ltd, Macemain+Amstad and Queensbury Shelters. The Committee considered the prices and merits of each quote and immediately discounted Abacus, Macemain+Amstad and Queensbury Shelters on issues of cost, non-compliance with the request for information and/or referees from previous orders. Of the remaining two, the clerk was asked to clarify certain aspects of their quotes and to take two references from previous orders for each company. Details of the five quotations are shown at the end of these minutes. It was agreed to arrange a further meeting for final selection of supplier when this information was available.

012 PROVISION OF BUS STOPS AND TIMETABLE ROUTE INFORMATION

Delaine Buses has requested a site meeting to discuss locations for bus stops. Lincolnshire County Council has confirmed that some money may be available to provide such stops. It was agreed to also approach Stagecoach and Shaws Coaches with a view to discussing bus stop locations with all three local operators.

Councillor Warrick showed the committee an early draft of how timetable information could be presented. It was agreed that Councillor Warrick should continue to work up these ideas.

013 ANY OTHER BUSINESS

There being no other business, the meeting was closed at 8.45pm.
